The doumbek also know as a darbuka or goblet drum originates from Eastern Europe the Middle East and Northern Africa. The drum is constructed from a goblet shaped body with a single playing head originating from temple music. The instrument used different and much lighter strokes then other similar looking instruments such as the djembe and produces a resonant sound.
