Caxixis are traditional percussion instruments commonly found across Africa and South America particularly in Brazil. They were originally a hand woven basketwork shaker with a flat bottomed gourd base which were traditionally cut from reed. Seeds bells or other small particles were placed inside to produce a soft and natural sound when shaken. Variations in sound are produced by varying the angle at which the caxixi is shaken.
Our double caxixi has a natural finish is made of durable woven construction with a curved handle to connect the two bells and is filled with lightweight plastic beads inside. A single caxixi PP652 is also available.
