Seed shakers or Caxixis are traditional percussion instruments commonly found across Africa and South America particularly in Brazil. They were originally a hand woven basketwork shaker with a flat bottomed gourd base which were traditionally cut from reed. Seeds or other small particles were placed inside to produce a soft and natural sound. Variations in sound are produced by varying the angle at which the caxixi is shaken.
Our single caxixi has a natural finish, is filled with plastic beads and is made of durable woven construction with a small carry handle, resembling a small bell. A double caxixi, PP653 is available.
